Chuckchansi

Drove to Chukchansi from San Jose, CA on 12/29/07. The trip was very fast, despite

the distance, and we loved the fact that it was very easy to find along California

Highways with very few diversions into backroads. The last 30 miles were a

challenge, but it was easy to get into and out of, despite the heavy fog when we

left.

We had a great time, but I was irritated at how cramped the slots were, and felt

"hovered over" when trying to game. We went on a Sunday afternoon, and it

was incredibly crowded.

We very much appreciated the fact that favorite slots games were available in smaller

denominations (quartes, dollars, five dollars) versus just the higher denominations

like some money-hungry casinos. Double Diamonds and Triple Diamonds were consistent

winners, and for nickle slots my companion recommends Texas Tea as a sure winner.

We spent long periods of time in line for the cashier cages; the ticket redemption

machines were few and far between, and seemed to be either out of order or being

worked on. Signage for everything seemed hard to read (I'm only 5'5" tall, so it

was challenging for an average to short person), and the interior was very smoky with

the ash trays dirty and a pall in the air from all the cigar and pipe smokers in

addition to the cigarette smokers. While warmer than some of the other casinos we

visited, the air wasn't moving to clean it frequently, and that that was a little

distressing.

Chukchansi casino was a bit of a hassle, and a long drive, but we had fun.

I won and lost a lot, starting with a budget of $200 and leaving with $65 in my

pocket after 5+ hours of play. At one point I was up about $800 on the slots, but

since I budget to play, I was happy with the outcome overall as the wins and losses

were fairly regular, and I won enough to keep on playing and leave with money in my

pocket vs. leaving because the budget was spent.

Summary:

How big is the parking lot? Huge but workable.

Do they have a good variety of slots & table games? Slots = yes, Table games = yes.

How long do you have to wait to cash in? Whatever line I was in, it was the wrong

line. The wait seemed long and a hassle to me.

What's the air quality? So-so. Noticed a lot more pipe and cigar smokers here, and

that was distressing since the air appeared more stagnant than other places that I'd

been. I'd give it a 5 on a bad to average to great scale with 5 being average.

Do they have a poker room? Yes. We played poker in the middle of the floor at the

regular tables.

How crowded is it on a Saturday night? We were there on a Sunday afternoon during a

holiday week.

Have we seen any jackpots won there? We won (and reinvested) a lot. There was a

huge slots winner next to me, but I got there at the paperwork stage and wasn't sure

how much he actually won.

Do they have multi-denom slots? Yes. While I stayed in the quarter to dollar mode,

it was nice to be able to choose the denomination on a particular machine as it was

very crowded and I might not have played as much otherwise.

Do they have keno & video poker machines? Loved the poker machines; didn't notice

any keno machines.

How fast are they emptying the ashtrays? Slow. They were pushing water and soft

drinks, but the ashtrays were full and the machines appeared worn and dirty. Wasn't

at all happy to see faded / poor quality graphics on the reels for the slots

machines, and visible scotch tape to hold the graphics onto the reel was a

deal-breaker for continuing play on a number of machines.

Is it worthy of being my travel / vacation destination? Sure, if you live nearby.

Otherwise, we felt it was over-rated and enjoyed both Black Oak and Las Vegas much

more.

What kind of bank roll do I need? I usually budget between $200 and $400 per night

when I'm out gambling; I won and lost about $800 on a $200 budget, leaving there with

$65 at the end of our playing.

Do they have a hotel or nearby lodging? Yes, but it was booked solid as it was a

holiday weekend (New Years).

Do they have EZ ticket machines? If this is the ticket redemption machine for cashing

out, then yes. However, they were mostly out of service or being serviced, and were

few and far between. We spent a lot of time at the cashier cage cashing out.

Do they serve alcohol? Yes.

How easy is it to drive there? It was an easy and relatively fast 3-hour drive;

Yahoo maps did a great job on directions.

And most importantly...

DID WE WIN? You betcha !
