Las Vegas Only 90 Minutes From LA

THE DRIVE: Location, location, location... The Morongo Band of Mission Indians have been developing their freeway adjacent property for the last decade and Morongo Casino's location couldn't be better. Roughly 90 minutes from LA, Morongo's glittering new hotel beckons drivers on the 10 freeway to pull over and try their luck. Have a spouse or friend who doesn't like to gamble? Drop them off at the awesome Cabazon outlet mall next door!
THE PARKING: Brand new covered parking, swift valet service. Costs a couple bucks, but you get a discount with your players card.
THE CASINO: Morongo Casino Resort & Spa (formerly Casino Morongo) has been around for over a decade. What used to be a fun stop along the way to Palm Springs has become an resort destination that rivals any Las Vegas Casino: A brand new casino and spa, a beautiful hotel, state of the art bowling alley, and world class entertainment.
It seems that Morongo is focused on bringing in LA's young set (it feels very much like Vegas' Hard Rock or Palms Casino) with ultra hip decor, slamming nightclubs and over 100 table games. They also have an awesome poker room with daily tournaments. The slots are new and mostly high denominations, lots of 15-20 line video machines set to nickel or quarter minimums which is a little steep for the average player. Until recently, they didn't even carry penny machines but I am pleased to report they have put in a few. My guess is that Morongo wants you to enjoy it's other activities and isn't targeted to the players who want to simply sit at the same machine for hours on end... there are plenty of lower end casinos for that!
THE FOOD: We'll be reviewing the Casino restaurants on our next trip. In the meantime, we recommend checking out Hadley Fruit Orchards next door for fresh California fruits and nuts!
THE STAFF: Friendly and efficient.
THE ODDS: I have not had much luck at the new casino, but the atmosphere is so pleasing it doesn't dampen my mood.
THE PAYLINE: If you're looking for a high end Vegas experience minutes from LA, Morongo is your best bet!

Morongo: Showbiz Oasis/Entertainment Mecca
My tour of the entertainment facilities at Morongo started in the nightclub VIBE. It couldn’t be more aptly named with this really great “vibe” – a cross between a hip New York rock club and a splashy Vegas show room. The capacity ranges from 800 – 1000 people (depends if the audience is sitting or standing). The club consists of 3 levels/3 floors. Want a killer view? Rent one of the private boxes for 20 – 25 people, and you see ALL the action: not only on stage, but in the entire club. As we toured the facility, an artist was rehearsing for that evening’s show. From my vantage point, the sound system was fantastic and a spectacularly expansive lighting system filled the room. Upcoming shows promised Radio Station artists and DJ’s featuring every kind of music: Top 40, Hip Hop, Dance, Disco, Latin and 80’s. I was sorry that I was going to miss Chaka Kahn playing the room.
Next we checked out the Ballroom. Conveniently located on the 2nd floor up the escalator, it’s seating capacity maxes out at 1000, giving the Ballroom a very intimate atmosphere: the kind of room where artists like Don Rickles can thrive. Unfortunately, the room was not set up for a specific event.
Now the “big room” at Morongo is The Tent(with a capital T)!!!! It is there where you can witness one of the biggest reigning divas of all time, Liza “New York New York” Minnelli, holding court and having a ball. The Tent seats approximately 3000 people, with a wide range of events catering to just about every Morongo guest. Completely separate from the casino, The Tent provides very easy access for guests before and after the show. Other popular acts booked at The Tent include Loggins & Messina, LeAnn Rimes and – one of my faves –Lea “Miss Saigon” Salonga: an amazing vocalist and a really sweet person, which I can say from first person experience, having played for her in the past.
Need to take a short breather from the slots and tables? There is also a lounge, Mystique, perfected situated just off the casino featuring live entertainment on the weekends.
For more good times, head next door to Morongo’s former casino facility for some bowling at Canyon Lanes. It’s practically a night club of its own with Bose sound and dance club lighting. Maybe I’ll join you. I could use the calorie-burning!

Good location, just off the 10 freeway and good parking structure. I would compare the food similar to eating at the mall (fast food....ugh). Non-smoking room is so small, you can't get the variety of machines in the main casino. Have hit some sizable jackpots. Rather crowded, due to the fact they accept 18 year olds. Will return sometime though.

Cabazon, California (October 23, 2009) – A storm front is forming over Morongo: Showbiz Oasis/Entertainment Mecca that will rain down $372,000 during the “Cash Storm” and “Cash Stuffing” giveaways taking place in November.
$252,000 Cash Storm Promotion
Held every Tuesday and Thursday from November 3 through November 24, Winners Club members who are actively playing at a Morongo slot machine between noon and 9 p.m. will be randomly selected to receive a $1,000 instant cash deposit.
Prizes will be awarded every 15 minutes with four winners every hour and 36 winners per day. The $1,000 prize will be deposited into the patrons’ Winners Club account which can be redeemed directly on their slot machine.
$120,000 Cash Stuffing Promotion
Two Winners Club members who are actively playing at a Morongo slot between noon and 9 p.m. will be randomly selected to receive $5,000 of free play credits each. The promotion will take place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting November 2 through November 27.
The $5,000 prize will be deposited into the patrons’ Winners Club account which can be redeemed directly on their slot machine. A total of 24 winners will be awarded a prize during the course of this promotion.
Travel Center and Casino Morongo Bingo machines do not qualify for “Cash Storm” or “Cash Stuffing” promotions. Winners Club membership is required to participate in either promotion.
