A Much Needed Expansion Pays Off

THE DRIVE: Neither interstate 10 nor the 215 freeway are particularly scenic... but who cares! Taking either route, San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino is a little over an hour away from Los Angeles... making it the closest casino to the inland empire.

THE PARKING: FINALLY! They have a covered parking garage and brand new valet area. In fact the back of the old casino is now the impressive front of the new casino.

THE CASINO: Okay, I'll be honest. Before this November, I'd been to San Manuel three times and never stayed for more than an hour. It is the closest casino to LA and smack in the middle of residential Highland, CA, which is a recipe for major crowds. I mean, who wouldn't want to gamble after a hard day's work, or on a lunch break for that matter? Add a killer marketing campaign, radio commercials and... yikes! It felt more like an airport than a casino.

I am pleased to report that my opinion has changed. Granted, I recently visited San Manuel on a weekday afternoon... BUT, I had been there at that same time before and could not get in the door. (USERS: Please report what the crowds are like on a weekend.)

First off, the new casino is absolutely beautiful. It has that circular casino design reminiscent of a Las Vegas casino. The ceilings are high, the ventilation is a thousand times better and best of all... it didn't feel that crowded!

They have acres of brand new slots and gorgeous new tables. I must note, there are NO pennies. There are some .02 cents but mainly nickels up. I'm never sure why casinos decide to not carry pennies which are a favorite of mine, but the .02 paid out better than expected so I can live with that!

THE FOOD: The Serrano Buffet looks amazing, I will try the next time out.

THE STAFF: Very friendly. Lots of ticket X-change machines so not that many of them on the floor.

THE ODDS: I must return for a longer playing time to calculate my play results. Like I said, I've never stayed for more than an hour before this trip, so I wasn't planning on enjoying it as much as I did!

THE PAYLINE: I look forward to revisiting San Manuel again to give an in depth review of slot play and the restaurants. In the meantime, I'd recommend you check out San Manuel before the rest of LA realizes how great the casino has become!

I don't recommend the blackjack here

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
I don't play slots, I play blackjack. I've been to this casino twice and don't recommend it for serious blackjack players.

Continuous shuffle machines (CSMs) that dominate the blackjack tables at this casino. Everyone has an opinion about them and my opinion is I don't like them and I won't play at tables that use them. Since there are few tables that don't use them, the choice of blackjack tables I'm willing to play at this casino is very limited.

I went one time during the morning and another time in the evening, which would cover two different dealer shifts. I've never encountered a friendly dealer at this casino.

There aren't many low-limit tables, either. The casino takes advantage of the fact that it's the closest casino to the greater Los Angeles area. There were two blackjack tables with a $5 minimum and one of them was using a CSM. There were so many people waiting to play both tables that the pit bosses was assigning numbers to them. The next lowest table was $15 minimum. It seems management would rather have people waiting to play on a low-limit table and have empty higher-limit tables than just lower the limits on more tables so more people would play.

Because of its proximity to the greater Los Angeles area, I found this casino crowded and noisy both times I went. Unless I hear they've made some changes, I won't bother stopping at this one again.

Pretty Bad Experience

10 of 14 people found the following review helpful
Lets just say that my first visit here was not great at all, the service is terrible and they are very rude. There was a problem with a visitor and the police had to escort him out, on the way out an officer bumped me and made me drop my drink. The casino offered free drinks but they never came, I inquired and was met with a rude response, I am not saying I deserved anything free, it was not the casinos fault that it spilled, but they should not offer anything they cannot deliver. Also the casino has no rooms of their own so plan on staying a few miles away for the night if you are planning on staying overnite. The air quality was extremely bad but I guess is to be expected with indoor smoking however they had no ventilation or filters. The food, please don't eat there if you want good food, the only thing I liked was the dancing but expect extremely crowded dance floors. Don't go here expecting to get treated right by the staff, just play and try not to mingle if you can.
