Sycuan Casino... Where The Winning's Warm!

San Diego is best known for its beautiful beaches, world class zoo, sports teams and thriving theater scene… but the locals know it for something else. Casinos.
Nestled in the golden hills of East County is San Diego’s closest gaming mecca, Sycuan Casino. A local favorite (when I say local I mean local - the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation has lived in the San Diego area for nearly 12,000 years!), Sycuan Casino delivers on every level.
THE DRIVE
I am happy to report that the drive to Sycuan is the shortest distance from downtown San Diego and a pleasant one at that. A quick ten minute jaunt through the rolling hills off the 1-8 and you’ve hit your destination!
Now, I’ve been to a lot of casinos in California and I must say that Sycuan takes friendly service to the next level. In fact, they seem set on spoiling you! At the valet, they don’t just open your door, they ask if you’d like your windshield washed while you play. Complementary bottles of Sycuan water greet you in your car when you return. Throughout my entire day in the casino, I was never met with anything but a smile from any employee… from the Player’s club staff to the bartender. The staff seemed to genuinely enjoy working at Sycuan which speaks volumes.
THE CASINO
Sycuan Casino has an impressive variety of multi-denom video slots and carries all the latest titles with a satisfying dose of favorites in the mix. With over 65 table games (smoking and smoke-free), a thriving poker room, high-tech bingo, Sycuan has their bases covered.
NON-SMOKERS BREATHE EASY!
I was impressed with the thought that went into Sycuan’s smoke-free section. One of the largest - with over 500 slots, tables and poker - the wing is entirely enclosed and the air quality is fantastic. It has its own restrooms, cashier’s cage, gift shop and even its own entrance to the parking lot! So if you want smoke-free gaming in San Diego, Sycuan is your place.
THE FOOD
I had a great meal in the newly remodeled Wachena Restaurant. The new décor is contemporary and relaxing, the service friendly and prompt. While many of my fellow diners happily devoured the Sycuan Casino steak & lobster special (for $19.95!), I opted for a patty melt and Sycuan’s signature sweet potato fries. Yum!
I was unable to try the Oasis buffet this trip, but clearly it was extremely popular as the line stretched into the casino floor throughout the evening.
THE HOTEL
While Sycuan Casino brands itself as a “daycation” for local players, Sycuan Resort offers a relaxing destination for out of town players that want the full Sycuan experience.
Located three miles from Sycuan Casino, the resort boasts a spectacular world class golf course, pro tennis facilities and relaxing health spa. Don’t want to drive the three miles? No problem. Sycuan Resort provides free shuttle takes you too and from the casino, just pick up the phone from one of the cozy, well appointed rooms and they’ll send it to pick you up.
JACKPOT STORY
After touring the casino, I settled into the brand new Wachena gaming lounge, an area adjacent to the restaurant where you can have a cocktail while playing your favorite machine. I settled into a quarter Caveman Keno machine (of all things) and happily played for a few hours on 20 bucks. I hit 5 out of 6 numbers on a four times multiplier twice.
BOTTOM LINE:
Sycuan is more than just a “daycation” for locals, it’s uber-friendly gaming destination for players across the state!

Pleasant Surprise in San Diego

I decided to head down to San Diego. I usually go to Casinos in the Palm Springs area, but checked out the map on this site and thought I'd change it up it a bit. Hadn't been to Sycuan. I was pleasantly surprised! It was awesome. When I pulled up I thought "I can't believe I haven't been here before". The staff there were friendly - offered to put a complementary water in my car at Valet. Some of the casinos have become so large, this was really cool. It looks like they are expanding which is awesome. They had great selection of slots - all of favorite games. I had a nice run on my old favorite - Jackpot Party! Old school - I know. Overall great trip and well worth the drive. I highly recommend a visit to Sycuan - I'll definitely be back. Who knew?
